Mass on Easter Morning
ALTERNATIVE RITE FOR THE RENEWAL OF BAPTISMAL PROMISES
May be used when a large number of those present have attended the Easter Vigil and have renewed during that liturgy their baptismal vows in the usual form.
The Presider introduces the rite in these or similar words.
In the Resurrection of the Lord, we are reborn to new life.
Let us renew the promises of our baptism,
so that dying to sin and death,
we may truly live as a people redeemed by Christ.
He asks them,
Do you reject Satan, all his works, and all his empty promises?
People:
We are a people redeemed by Christ.
Sin and death has no power over us.
We have been freed by him and we are slaves no longer.
In his death, we died to our life of sin;
in his rising, we now live a new life of grace.
Presider: Glory and praise for ever!
People: Glory and praise for ever!
Do you believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth?
People:
We believe in God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
rich in mercy and full of all compassion.
He created us in love to share in his life
and when we turned our backs to him in sin,
gave us his only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ
who reconciles us to him and makes us in baptism,
his adopted sons and daughters.
Presider: Glory and praise for ever!
People: Glory and praise for ever!
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was born of the Virgin Mary,
was crucified, died and was buried,
rose from the dead,
and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?
People:
We believe in Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of God,
who, in the fullness of time,
became man like us in all things but sin.
Because he was humbled, we are now raised;
because he died, we now have life;
and because he rose again, we inherit eternal joy.
Now he lives in glory with God,
pleading to the Father on our behalf.
We wait for him with eager hope,
breaking bread in his memory,
until he comes again as he bid us do.
Presider: Glory and praise for ever!
People: Glory and praise for ever!
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting?
People:
We believe in the Holy Spirit, Lord and Life-giver,
Christ’s Easter gift to the Church,
who gathers us as his holy people and leads us
sinners and saints called together
and walking hand in hand,
to everlasting life with the Risen Lord.
Presider: Glory and praise for ever!

Presider:
God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
gave us new life in baptism
by the death and resurrection of his only Son.
May he also preserve us in our new life of grace
and make us grow together in holiness
as Christ’s holy people
through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
The Presider now sprinkles himself and the assembly with Easter water.
PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
Presider:
Because of his obedience even unto death,
the Father raised Jesus on high
and made him our heavenly high priest
who makes intercession for us.
With faith in Jesus, let us pray to the Father:
R. Father, hear us for the love you bear your Son.
1. For the holy Church,
that she may faithfully carry out in the Eucharist
the memorial of the Lord’s redeeming sacrifice.
May she live out his Paschal Mystery,
until he comes again.
Let us pray to the Lord.
R. Father, hear us for the love you bear your Son.
2. For our nation,
that we may experience the transforming power
of the risen Christ who lives among his people.
May the joy and peace of the resurrection
fill our homes and heal our land.
Let us pray to the Lord.
R. Father, hear us for the love you bear your Son.
3. For all who have received the gift of baptism,
that they may persevere in their commitment to Christ
and become witnesses of his salvation to the world.
May they live out their new life in Jesus
and draw others to believe in him.
Let us pray to the Lord.
R. Father, hear us for the love you bear your Son.
4. For all our departed brethren,
that they may experience in the Risen Lord,
the fulfillment of the promise of eternal life.
May they find everlasting peace and joy
in contemplating the vision of his glorious face.
Let us pray to the Lord.
R. Father, hear us for the love you bear your Son.
5. For all of us now gathered around the table of the Lord,
that we may continue to proclaim to all people,
the good news of the Risen Christ,
by living out the love which he showed us
by giving his life on the cross.
Let us pray to the Lord.
R. Father, hear us for the love you bear your Son.
Presider:
Father,
you fill us with joy
at the resurrection of your Son.
Hear our prayers,
and let our petitions be dealt with graciously,
through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
